The Pleasure Trail 2011 - Part 3 - Bangkok.

Part 1 was a write up about malacca which i went with my family during the month of January. Part II was about a Penang family trip with my family in Sept. Part 3 was a trip with close friends to Bangkok. Part I n II is up in my blog (for those who know), I try for the first time to post this on my fb, for the reading pleasure of my friends.

Ahh, I woke up like an excited boy, raving for his 3rd overseas trip of the year. This time, its bangkok, the capital of thailand, shopping paradise and cusine like no other. The last time i went there, i was only ten, i could only recall Uncle Ah Krit n his wife, succulent suckling pigs, yummy orange juices, and the sky pub which indulge me in my mocktail obsession.

Pick-ups and printing of last minute documents n meet up @ the airport. We had some quick breakfast at the terminal, some do-able la mian. Before we knew it, we are rushing our way to the gate. Gosh, there were some unexpected delays, but we managed to make it into the flight with seconds remaining. Phew, it was 1 exciting incident.

Played Music n games in the airplane. Arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in the early aftenroon. Managed to find a reasonable priced 7 seater cab to bring us to our hotel, Amari Residences Sukhumvit. The smell of lemongrass fills the whole lobby. Got our cards and we went up straight to the 9th floor. Tick~, opened our room door and we are invited to a spacious room, with a cosy kitchen, table for 2, a comfy king size bed, LCD TV n a bathroom with BATHTUB!!!. We ordered room service for lunch, hmm,, lemme recall, Prawn Cakes, Phad Thai, Green Curry with Chicken, Tomyum Seafood Soup, Tomyum Prawn Soup, Fried Rice, Fried Mixed Vegetables & Mango Sticky Rice.
The meal was yummy, easily an 8/10, maybe its due to me starving, but i have no complains for the food, except for the amount of clingwraps they used to cover the dishes. It becomes a chore removing them. Evening was a BTS trip to Siam. We had dinner at their food court, rice paper rolls, 8 treasure rice, beef noodles, fried kuey tiao, omelette with rice, tom yum soup and fresh coconut juice. We stormed through the supermarket @ PhloenChit shopping centre, with minutes to spare. We bought some milk, crackers and drinks for the evening. We retired for the night with snacks and screening of '' Coming of Kang Xi ''.

Day 2

Breakfast in the morning was average. It was a usual fare which you get at the hotels, a few buffet spread, omelette station, cereals, bread and fruits. We left for Chatukchak via the BTS. We started to sweep lane by lane, shopping, discounting, cheaper, best price, discount more more. Before we knew it, bags start to fill our hands, we made our way to JJmall for lunch at a cosy thai restaurant. We had, papaya salad, mango salad, tom yum soup, seafood soup, phad thai, fried chicken, stir fried vegetables, and fresh coconuts!. We returned back to CTC n more shopping, coconut ice cream with glutinous rice n corn, more shopping, more discounts, n more baht leaving my pockets. Some wise man stepped on my flip flops and they gave way, had to walk a stretch before coming to a slipper shop n bought a new pair of flip flops.

At this point, sky starts to pour, and we brisk walk our way back to the station . Oh silly me, we alighted 1 station earlier. After alighting at Phloen Chit, We ''strolled'' under the rain back to the hotel, ending up drenched n wet. Dinner was adventurous, we had a grilled fish from the road side stall, fried rice, broiled sausages and my ''home style'' tom yum instant noodles.

As we watch HBO, my eyes start to close, and at this point of time, Bangkok in my world, revolves around zzz, some snores maybe?, pillows, comfy blankets and aircon.

Day 3.

Shopping, i take my hats off the ladies for their ability to shop, its not just a hobby, its a passion, something they will willingly die for (I suppose?). We started off our day in gaysorn plaza, with some crystal glancing. Second stop was Central World where bahts were flying to the cashier @ Naraya. We moved over to Big C for snacks shopping. Afterwhich. we crossed the river to Platinum mall. Lunch was again, Tomyum soup, beef noodles, fried stick noodles & fried mama noodles with of course, Coconuts! n Mango sticky rice. 4 hrs worth of quality shopping, this time, discounts seems a distant reality, and stalls owners are pretty strict with their pricing, a different story from CTC. It was not a pleasant moment for a shopper, when he/she cant get his discounts! We will willingly walk out of the shop with our pockets full of baht. But nevetheless, it was a fruitful day with the number of shopping bags outnumbered my fingers n toes!.
We ended off the evening with a walk through an shopping alley to Baiyoke Sky Tower 2. We had a sumptous buffet dinner, good, but not fantastic. I cant say the same for the view, which was amazing. I had the whole of bangkok under my eyes, maybe Yingluck should come here for her flood assessment.
Day 4.
Packed up and returned to the airport. We had tomyum soup, phad thai, some sandwiches n fanta for a pre-lunch snack. Boarded the airplane after some delays and landed at Singapore approx 5. After some peak hour traffic jams and stuff, I bunked home at 730pm.
A wonderful hotel, yummilicious food, very very reasonable shopping and cool weather, with of course, the company of real nice friends, is a trip to die for. Considering the situation at bangkok, I may be swimming right now if some walls chose to give way. My prayers are for thailand. Hope you can recover as soonest possible from this Flood. I shall return!
